Lovett and Co - Rachel Lovett & Ally Martin

Rachel had always had a dream of running her own business one day. When searching for the perfect jewellery to go with her wedding dress, looking for a vintage style but with a modern take on it, it became apparent to her that there was a gap in the jewellery market for such styles.

It was this realisation coupled with her extensive experience in the fashion jewellery industry that Lovett & Co was founded.

Rachel and Ally had worked together in the past. In the early days Ally was taken on to consult on the image of the brand, and jewellery trends for the coming seasons.

Their combined passion for product, high quality, attention to detail and customer service make for a winning combination at Lovett & Co.

Rachel:

Although it could be said it is every little girl’s dream I have always known that one day I would build my career around shopping and fashion. My interest in fashion first started when I was at school and took a Saturday job in a shoe shop. I loved the shoes so much and would spend time designing my ideas in a scrap book that no one ever really saw. During the 1980s my Dad got a big promotion to buyer at a very iconic High Street shoe retailer and I was hooked. I loved it when he would come home from a trip to Italy bringing his samples and start planning the collection for the next season. The idea of becoming a fashion buyer was the glamorous life that I realised I wanted.

To follow my dream I studied for a Retail Marketing Degree in Manchester. After University I went straight into a career in buying starting at the bottom as a buyer’s clerk and working my way up to buyer training at the shopping retail giant Arcadia along the way.

In 2001 I made a career change and moved from buying clothing in London to jewellery in Brighton, England which is now the sunny seaside home of Lovett & Co. It was here that I developed a passion for designing jewellery but it was not until I left several years later to have my 2 sons that I decided it was time to go it alone. I knew I wanted to continue to design jewellery but wanted to be able to design the type of designer jewellery I loved and wanted to wear – vintage inspired jewellery. I have always believed that a true sense of style never fades or ages which is why I love to find my inspiration in the vintage designs of bygone eras of glamour and femininity particularly 1920’s jewellery and 1950’s jewellery to create beautiful timeless jewellery for women epitomising elegant femininity.

Ally:

Ally has always been interested in jewels and pretty trinkets from a very early age, looking through her grandma’s boxes of buttons and beads with huge eyes of wonder.

Her love of drawing and creating designs was encouraged at school, taking Art & Design exams three years early. She then went on to study Art & Design at Art College but it wasn’t until leaving college that she found herself in the jewellery importing business. This was quite literally ‘being in the right place at the right time’ and her passion for product and design evolved into the buying industry. Ally has over 20 years of experience in the fashion and semi-precious jewellery industries.

She is fascinated with vintage jewellery in particular and feels that every vintage piece of jewellery she discovers has it’s own story to tell. Imagining how every piece was once worn, who wore it and for what glamorous occasion. Her love of fashion history and style icons of the past coupled with her passion for product help to give substance to the Lovett & Co brand.
