Remembrance day.

On the 11th November at 11am millions of us will stop what we are doing and give 2 minutes silence to remember all those affected in conflicts.

It was in November 1918 that the American Moira Michael wrote a poem 'We Shall Keep The Faith' after being inspired by Brigade Doctor John McCrae's poem 'In Flanders Fields' written 1915. Moira writes that she promises to wear a poppy in honour of our dead, this is where the tradition of wearing a poppy began.

We Shall Keep The Faith   by   Moira Michael 1918

Oh! You who sleep in Flanders Fields

Sleep sweet - to rise a new!

We caught the torch you threw

And holding high, we keep the Faith

With All who died.

We Cherish, too, the poppy red

That grows on fields where valor led;

It seems to signal to the skies

That blood of heroes never dies,

But lends a lustre to the red

Of the flower that blooms above the dead

In Flanders Fields

And now the Torch and Poppy Red

We wear in honour of our dead

Fear not that ye have died for naught;

We'll teach the lesson that ye wrought

In Flanders Fields
