When I get to my 90's if there's one person I hope to emulate it's Iris Apfel. The 94 year-old New Yorker has been a long-time lover of fashion (just don't call her a fashionista!) and is the subject of a new documentary by the late documentary maker Albert Maysles. Iris was born in Queen's New York and began her career working at Women's Wear Daily and also as an interior designer. When she married, her and her husband Carl set up a company called the Old World Weavers and worked at the White House on design and restoration projects for 9 different Presidents. In 2012 at the age of 90 she was still a visiting professor at the University of Texas. Even to this day she still consults and lectures on all things fashion and style and has appeared in The Guardian's "Best Dressed Over 50" and also featured on a Channel 4 programme. I for one, will be queing at the cinema to see the film on its release.
"Iris" by Albert Maysles is in cinemas from August.
