There are lots of awards ceremonies happening at the moment, mainly in the world of film and television, it's something where fashion tends to be left behind. Last night however, saw celebrities out in force to celebrate the British High Street at the Lorraine High Street Awards held at the Grand Connaught Rooms in London. Maybe not as prestigious at the British Fashion Council or even WGSN Global Awards, but with nationwide TV coverage of the build-up, voting and results it must surely be the most popular.
Categories were kept to just 8 and included Best Department Store (Debenhams), Best Maternity (Next) and Best Trendsetter (River Island). Surprisingly, there were no award categories for accessories or jewellery and no awards went to Topshop! Of course, our biggest concern was who was wearing what and as the title suggests most people opted for High Street outfits. Our favourite (along with most of the newspapers this morning) was Susanna Reed. Her assymetric full skirt was from Coast, (it will be available soon!) and worn with a sequin top looked pink-carpet-ready. Ashley Roberts, who's been making a name for herself on British tv, wore a white caped suit from online store Forever Unique retailing at £220 and pregnant Suzanne Shaw rocked a teal body con dress from House of CB (a brave choice!). Fellow mum-to-be Sophie Ellis-Bextor looked stunning, and very heavily pregnant, in a khaki printed dress (she kept quiet on which brand she was wearing but we've found something very similar at Topshop).
Louis Smith, who's been everywhere this week with Lucy Mecklenburgh, continued on their winning style streak. Louis wore a smart jacket with a polo neck and navy trousers (although I really wish he'd stop with the loafers and no socks...) Lucy wore a 50's style dress with leather and lace trims from Coast at £139.
