Oscar Highlights

So, we've had a day to catch up with the Oscars, to update our Love Film lists and ensure we watch at least some of the big winners over the next few weeks.  So with the actual films covered it's time to turn to what we're all thinking about - the frocks! Who looked fabulous? Who played it safe? We're too classy to knock anyone for dressing up and looking pretty so a worst dressed won't be featuring here!

Key themes were red (on a red carpet!!), nudes and neutrals and sea green.  The designer of choice was, unsurprisingly, Marchesa. A label which is co-designed and co-owned by Georgina Chapman, the British Wife of US film mogul Harvey Weinstein.

Rosamund Pike kept her look very clean in red Givenchy, along with Dakota Johnson in Saint Laurent and Nicole Kidman went for a statement red belt. Lady Gaga killed it not only with her stunning vocal abilities singing songs from The Sound of Music but also with her accessorising.  Can we expect to see giant gauntlets come Autumn..?!!

Nudes and neutrals always look amazing against the red carpet and many actresses chose the look this year from Jennifer Aniston who looked stunning in a simple Versace column dress, to Juliane Moore looking amazing once again this time in Chanel and Chopard.

Huge statement neckwear was also a big look from Cate Blanchett in a black Maison Margiela dress with a large turquiose Tiffany collar to Scarlet Johansson in emerald Versace with an attached high collar necklace.

Overall, the A Listers played it safe sticking with gowns in classic shapes in colours known to suit them - Gywneth Paltrow in palest pink Ralph & Russo being a good example, all with a jewelled earring thrown in for good measure.

So, who gets our vote..? Along with Scarlett Johansson and Gwyneth Paltrow, our favourite was outside bet Margo Robbie, who wowed in a black low-cut Saint Laurent dress with Van Cleef and Arpels tasselled necklace.
