Queen Elizabeth II

Posted by in Topical Features on Sep 09, 2015 . 0 Comments.

Today Queen Elizabeth II becomes Britain's longest-reigning monarch when she passes the record previously set by Queen Victoria - her Great, Great Grandmother - at approximately 5.30pm.  At this point she will have been on the throne for 23,226, 16 hours and 30 mins (or 63 and a bit years!). During that time she's been spotted in trousers once by a Royal Aide whilst on the Royal Yacht Britannia but is frequently seen out and about wearing her signature pearls.

There will be official celebrations during the course of the day with the Post Office Tower in central London showing a scrolling sign saying "Long May She Reign".
